The Amazing Spider-Man (2012 film)

The Amazing Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is a reboot of the Spider-Man film series and the fourth Columbia Pictures film that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school. The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011. Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.

'Delhi Belly' remake cast not finalized!

Miscreants have it that the cast of 'Delhi Belly's Tamil remake are finalized. It was widely reported that Arya, Hansika will play the lead roles with Premgi Amaren, Santhanam and Anjali in pivotal roles. When IndiaGlitz contacted the makers, G Dhananjayan expressed that this is wrong news doing the rounds. It was rumoured that Arya will reprise Imran Khan's role, whereas Hansika will play the role done by Shenaz Treasureywala in the original. This Aamir Khan production venture that released with an 'A' certificate is a cult blockbuster. As of now the only thing that has been confirmed is director Kannan will be wielding the megaphone. Arya is reportedly approached to play the lead but nothing has been officially announced yet by the makers. An official announcement is expected shortly from UTV Motion Pictures

World's ugliest dog dies

When a beloved pet dies, good manners usually dictate saying something nice about the departed companion. And for Yoda, it was a compliment to say she sure was ugly. Yoda won the 2011 World's Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair for her short tufts of hair, protruding tongue, and long, seemingly hairless legs. The Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix died in her sleep on Saturday. She was 15. The 0.8-kilogram pooch had lived a rough life before Terry Schumacher found her abandoned behind an apartment building and mistook her for a rat. The dog went on to win $1,000 and a trophy 15 times her size when she won the contest last June. Yoda and Schumacher became famous, appearing on national television.

Eight-year-old Indonesian boy smokes two packs of cigarettes a day

An eight-year-old Indonesian boy smokes two packets of cigarettes a day in a country where there is no minimum age for buying or smoking cigarettes. The country's Child Protection Commission said that the boy highlights the government's failure to regulate the tobacco industry. After food, cigarettes account for the second-largest household expenditure in the Southeast Asian country of 240 million people, nearly half of whom still live on less than two dollars a day. But there is no minimum age for buying or smoking cigarettes. "Ilham started smoking when he was four years old... his smoking habit grew day by day and now he can finish smoking two packs of cigarettes a day," the boy's father, a motorcycle taxi driver called Umar, said, according to the Antara news agency. The boy, who lives in a village in West Java provincial district of Sukabumi, would flare up in a rage and "smash glass windows or anything" if he was not given cigarettes, he added."He doesn't want to go to school anymore. He spends his whole day smoking and playing." The government has increased excise taxes but prices remain extremely low by international standards, with a pack of 20 costing little more than a dollar. Indonesia's Child Protection Commission chairman Arist Merdeka Sirait said the latest case further highlighted the government's failure to regulate the industry. "This is yet another evidence showing the government has been defeated by the tobacco industry," he told AFP. "The growing number of smokers are a result of the industry's aggressive marketing targeting young people." The government makes about $7 billion (£4.5 billion) a year in excise taxes from the industry, which employs thousands of people on the island of Java. In another case, a two-year-old boy who smoked about 40 cigarettes a day managed to kick the habit after he received intensive specialist care in 2010. According to the World Health Organisation, smoking rates have risen six-fold in Indonesia over the last 40 years. Smoking kills at least 400,000 people in Indonesia every year and another 25,000 die from passive smoking.

Elderly neighbour faces ruin after fabricating document in boundary dispute

An elderly home owner who used a photocopier to fabricate a crucial document in the midst of a bitter boundary war with his next-door neighbours is facing ruin.Although there was only a few feet of land and a garden shed at stake, Peter Hutchinson put everything on the line when he "tampered" with a site plan so that a crucial measurement, which should have read "73 feet", read "78 feet" instead. In an attempt to wriggle off the hook when his deceit was uncovered, Mr Hutchinson, a builder, and yoga teacher, Susan Penning, even accused their neighbour, Michael Neale, of forging the document himself in an attempt to blacken their credibility. But, after the truth came out in court, the grey-haired couple, of "Whitecrest", Newlands Drive, Leominster, paid a heavy price when - despite winning the boundary dispute - they were hit with enormous lawyers' bills that left them "ruined". Now, however, in a bid to keep their home, they are asking Appeal Court judges to save them from the "financial calamity" of having to pay legal costs which are likely to run well into six figures. The row exploded in 2005 when Mr Hutchinson and Ms Penning "grubbed up" part of a hedge in their back garden to make way for a new shed and Mr Neale, a retired military surveyor, and his wife Ann, who live next door at "Headley", objected. After two county court hearings, Judge Simon Barker QC ruled in favour of Mr Hutchinson and Ms Penning on the boundary issue - but went on to punish their dishonesty by leaving them to foot their own legal costs bills and the lion's share of their neighbours'. Mr Hutchinson had used a photocopier to tamper with a 1944 site plan and the judge said there was "no possibility that this was anything other than a conscious and deliberate alteration". Ms Penning knew what he had done and, even after the truth emerged, they "chose not to come clean", instead trying to blame Mr Neale for the forgery, he added. Alec McCluskey, for the Neales, said their neighbours were guilty of "serious dishonesty" and Ms Penning "persisted in maintaining that they did not alter the plan" until the truth was "eventually wrung out" of her under cross-examination in the witness box. Arguing that the pair's dishonesty had "poisoned the whole litigation process", and made a settlement all but impossible, the barrister added: "Their false evidence was also, of course, a contempt of court". By pointing the finger at Mr Neale, the couple had accused him of being "party to an elaborate scheme to pervert the course of justice" and he was entitled to come to court to clear his name, Mr McCluskey told Lords Justice Patten and Pitchford. The barrister added that Mr Hutchinson and Ms Penning "have at no stage sought to apologise either to the Neales, or to the court, for the disgraceful allegation and giving perjured evidence in support of it". John Brennan, for Mr Hutchinson and Ms Penning, pointed out that they had won the boundary dispute and - although there was "no glory in victory" for them - the normal order would have been for the Neales to pay their legal costs. Attacking Judge Barker's decision to punish them so heavily in legal costs, the barrister added: "They are ruined. They will have to sell their house in order to meet the costs of refuting the Neales' claim to own part of their garden". Mr Brennan also argued the Neales had turned away pre-trial offers to settle the case and that the fabricated document in the end had no impact on the outcome of the dispute. However, Mr McCluskey responded: "It cannot be right that the Neales should have to pay the costs of dishonest litigants who signed false statements of truth in contempt of court and then gave perjured evidence. "Not only would that be grossly unfair to the Neales, it would be contrary to the interests of the administration of justice. "Parties to boundary disputes should not expect to be able to fabricate documents and lie under oath in support of their case and still recover their costs if they succeed at trial. "It is only just that someone who gives perjured evidence should have to pay". The Appeal Court judges have now reserved their judgment on the case until a later date.

Story of Srikanth's next

Kollywood stories often resemble real life incidents. Srikanth's upcoming film 'Ethiri Enn 3' is one such film. The movie revolves around bank robbery and there are some encounter scenes too, says its director Ramkumar.
But he calls it a sheer coincidence. "The story was conceived a long back and we started the shooting last year itself. The film is about how an intelligent youngster is trapped by robbers. There are some pulsating encounter sequences as well."
Poonam Bhajwa is playing Srikanth's love interest in this movie, which has veteran Prabhu doing an important character. "The shooting is nearing completion and we have plans to release the movie soon," adds the director.
Besides 'Ethiri Enn 3', Srikanth is currently busy with a film titled 'Paagan'. Also, the 'Nanban' actor is committed to do a couple of projects in Tollywood and Mollywood.

Vikram & Vishal upset ?

Sources close to ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram say that the actor has been ‘hugely upset’ at not getting any recognition at the recently announced national awards for films. The national awards gave as many as five awards to Tamil film makers and artistes.Lesser known Appukkutty, a diminutive actor who had played the central character in director Suseendhiran’s Azhagarasmiyin Kudhirai, walked away with the national award for ‘best supporting actor’ to the surprise of many. Even within Kollywood, there have been murmurs heard about the choice of the actor for the award with some openly commenting that for his ‘looks’, he deserved nothing.
Vikram, who had perfectly enacted the role of a mentally challenged person in last year’s Deivathirumagal directed by Vijay, was widely considered as one of the contenders to receive the national award for ‘best actor’. However, the fact that the film was a frame-by-frame version of the Hollywood film I am Sam (which starred Sean Penn in the lead role) probably put it out of contention. Though the film was in contention under the categories of ‘best film’, ‘best actor’ and ‘best director’, it ended up winning awards in not one category. Another hero who is also worried about not winning the coveted national award for ‘best actor’ is our own Vishal, who recently led the team of Tamil actors to their CCL Trophy triumph. Vishal, who appeared ‘squint-eyed’ throughout the film, is reportedly wondering what he would have to do to attract the attention of the Jury.
